Kinshasa Congo Intercontinental Hotel
Accor International, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Accor Group, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a definitive agreement to build a new hotel in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF), which takes place in Ethiopia during the week of 23-25 September, has announced the signing of an agreement with the Government of the Congo for the development of two hotels in the country.
The management contract was signed following the completion of the highly acclaimed refurbishment of the Accor Hotel Kinshasa, the world's largest hotel in the country. After completion in 2015 and the development of two more hotels in Rwanda, the management contract for the construction of a new hotel on the site of an old railway station in the Democratic Republic of Congo was also signed.
Kinshasa Grand Hotel is part of the largest hotel complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the second largest in Africa. Gombe is the administrative and diplomatic centre of the city of Kitsha and the seat of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the African Union (AU) and other international organisations.
The name "Le Grand Hotel Kinshasa" was given to the Intercontinental Hotel in Gombe, one of the oldest hotels in the world. After the renaming it became "Intercontinental," whose sophistication and perfection still impress its guests. Today it has 422 rooms, the 56th intercontinental hotel and the 6th in Africa. Kansashebe, by far the largest French-speaking city in South Africa, is left behind by the French in a longer shot.

The Radisson Hotel Group plans to open two more hotels in Kinshasa in the next few months. The Radisson Blu Hotel Casablanca is scheduled to open in November, marking the group's first move into the city. The hotel is the first of two new hotels under construction in Nairobi, followed by the Best Western Westlands, which is currently under construction and is due to open in Zanzibar in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Lonrho Hotels has been commissioned by the government to upgrade the hotel to a leading five-star hotel and conference centre in Kinshasa, one of Africa's largest cities. This is the first hotel of its kind in the world (in the centre of the picture) to undergo a major renovation under his leadership. The redevelopment will take about two years and cost about $1.5 million (1.4 million euros). The government has commissioned the Lonr Ho Hotel to make it the second largest hotel in the country and the leading five-star hotel and conference venue after the International Convention Centre.
Lonrho Hotels has been awarded a contract to renovate the Intercontinental Hotel and Conference Centre in Kinshasa, one of Africa's largest cities. But the group remains great: its contract expires at the end of this year, as stipulated in an agreement of 5 November 1971.
